To promote the high-quality development of
fresh corn in Jiading District, enhance the demonstration and exhibition of new
corn varieties, and boost innovation in the agricultural sector, the 2024
Jiading District Fresh Corn Variety Exhibition and Observation Meeting was held
at the Xuhang base of Shanghai Shengeng Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. The
attendees included representatives from the Vegetable Division of the District
Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, as well as vegetable sector
leaders from various towns within the district.
The participants visited the Shengeng base's corn variety exhibition area, which featured nearly 600 varieties, including popular ones such as LongMarch 108, LongMarch 104, Huhongnuo, and Zhenuo 18, as well as several new varieties. In the field, Shengeng's corn breeder, Sheng Lili, and Lu Xuezhen, the chief expert of the Shanghai Fresh Corn Industry Technology System, discussed key criteria for selecting high-quality glutinous corn varieties. These criteria include the number of kernel rows, the degree of stickiness, and specific quality requirements.
The most anticipated part followed with the observation and tasting session. After the initial variety selection process, 18 excellent new varieties were showcased at the tasting event, including colorful glutinous corn, white glutinous corn, purple glutinous corn, and red glutinous corn. Among them were six new varieties independently developed by our company, including Long March 108, Long March 518, and Long March 208. These varieties are all high-quality sweet and glutinous corn, known for their excellent quality, soft and sticky texture, and mildly sweet flavor. Long March 108 is already a well-established variety that is popular in the market.
The varieties showcased in this tasting
session were highly competitive, with each offering outstanding flavor.
Participants, holding their score sheets, repeatedly deliberated, finding it
difficult to choose the best variety. After tallying the votes, Shengeng's new
variety " Long March 208" was awarded the top spot for its excellent
glutinous texture and high sweetness. "Huhongnuo No. 1" secured
second place, "Zhenuoyu 18" came in third, and Shengeng's " Long
March " took fourth place.
